A leading education institution gets a UX makeover

Using UX research skills to modernise an Irish institution’s education products and booking system.

Since February 2022, I have been a core team member directing UX research for the re-design of a leading Irish Education Centre’s web platform

The goal of this project has been to modernise and re-design the product platform across a number of different departments.

Defined metrics for the project include:

  • standardising the look and feel of the site across departments,

  • adhering to the organisation’s brand and tone of voice guidelines,

  • solving end problems for users to aid their use of the site, and

  • smoothing the transition to a newer web platform.

Note: for confidentiality reasons, any identifying markers have been removed.

Getting down to research

  • research

    Initial research

The project began with research into how the web platform was being used across two separate departments - analysing key differences and similarities

  • interview

    Stakeholder interviews

To glean the sharpest insights on the purpose of the platform, interviews were arranged over Zoom with key stakeholders from each department.

Interviews were conducted individually and a script was prepared in advance, in order to ask the most appropriate questions.

  • focus group

    Focus group

Following the individual interviews, a focus group was organised over Zoom for all stakeholders to meet.

The preliminary interviews helped guide the direction of the focus group, and to target areas for discussion.

Exercises were prepared via Trello and each department learned how the other department was using its web platform.

This is an ongoing project with further developments expected over the coming months.
